Welcoming grandchild number 8!

What a wonderful blessing! We have a new little one in the family! My son Kipp, the baby's dad, celebrates his 36th birthday today and he got to bring Rebecca and the baby home from the hospital today. What a great birthday present to have his family all together! Rebecca's parents are also there to help.

The new baby was born on Thursday, November 29, weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce and just got named today: Warren Porter. Warren was his great-uncle's name and Porter is a name from a children's book that Rebecca likes plus this week's full moon is called a "Porter Moon."

The new baby is grandson Everett's baby brother. Everett was born on September 29, 2010, so they are 26 months apart to the day. Grandma is very happy that she just has to remember "29" and it actually covers 3 of the grandkids' birthdays. Easier on the brain, LOL.

Shop for Handmade Greeting Cards

One of the vendors at my craft show last weekend makes great cards! I stock up on Ellen's cards every year. I've asked her to make special cards and journals for friends, and she is very quick with custom orders. Her etsy shop Cards by Carlos offers cards for birthdays, babies, holidays, best wishes, thinking of you, congratulations, graduation, thank you, weddings, anniversaries, get well, sympathy and more, as well as journals.

Each card is one of a kind. Here are a few samples with links to the listings for sale:

Favorite pictures of the week

"Bah humbug"

My friend at work entered this photo of her dog Buddy in an online costume contest at work. This face cracks me up.

Here are some of my grandkids' Halloween costumes.

Everett was a "cheeseburger."

Jocie was an Autumn Tree.

Scott and family were the Avengers. Meg made her own shield out of a pizza box, paint and duct tape. Paige made her hammer out of floral foam, duct tape and a stick from the yard! My son Scott is unrecognizable with a green face. :)

An Artsy Clay pin in action

How cool is this? One of my customers ordered a custom kokopelli pin, and sent me a picture of her handmade bag with the pin attached. I love the cool bag and the matching bracelet too.

Chanukah Ornaments

My cousin asked me to make her some Chanukah ornaments to help decorate their family room in December. I found some cookie designs online for inspiration - a Star of David, dreidel and menorah. These are off to Chicago in today's mail!

The ornaments measure about 3" x 3" and the white clay is "Sculpey Ultra Light" so they're quite lightweight. I added a fimo loop to the back of each one to hold the ribbon.

Tutorial: How to Make a Two-Sided Polymer Clay Pendant

My friend Joy loves the musical "Cats" and asked me to make her a two-sided pendant with her favorite character "Munkustrap" on one side and the Cats logo on the other side.

She sent me these photos to go by. She said I could make the cat face look like the ones I usually make, as long as it was grey, black and white.

HOW TO MAKE A TWO-SIDED PENDANT (POLYMER CLAY)

I've tried to make two sided pendants before but with all raw clay, the first side gets "smushed" as you work on the second side. One of the best features of polymer clay is that you can bake a piece, add to it, and bake again. I thought about it awhile and figured out how to do it.

SIDE 1

1) I made the cat side first with a hole poked through at the top.

2) Then I baked it according to the package directions.

SIDE 2

3) When it was cool, I added the eyes and letters on the other side with liquid Sculpey on the back of each piece to "glue" the raw clay to the baked clay. Liquid Sculpey turns hard and bonds pieces together as you bake it.

4) I baked it again.

5) Success! Both sides looked great.

I made the pendant and mailed it to Joy and here it is after she made the hemp part with some cute "I Love Cats" beads. She says it's her favorite pendant that I've made her. :)

Labor Day holiday weekend

Kipp, Rebecca and Everett were here over the weekend so we met them at the park on Saturday. Everett had a blast throwing rocks in the creek. SPLASH!

Then we hung out at Everett's other grandparents' house. He loves playing with Grandpa's phone.

Everett will be 2 on September 29.

Dinner with friends and new necklaces

Last night I met Joy and her Aunt Ruthie for dinner at the Olive Garden in Spartanburg. Joy was back visiting family for a few days. It was great to see them! That's Joy with me above and with her Aunt Ruthie below.

New collaborations: Joy's hemp work, my pendants

Mariah and Joy - artists at work

Here are Mariah and Joy at the Beaded Frog in Greenville. Joy is visiting from out of state and they got together to work on hemp jewelry.

Here is the necklace Mariah made out of the pendant and 2 of the beads that I made. Joy taught her how to combine different colors. I love the result, don't you?

Visit Joy's website here. Custom orders welcome from Joy or me.

Something Blue

Here is the hemp necklace and bracelet that my friend Joy made with the pendant and beads in my last post. This will be a lovely wedding gift for a friend of a friend.

Some fun custom orders

My friend Joy is going to make a hemp necklace with this pendant that I made. The necklace will be a wedding gift, made in the bride's favorite colors.

Matching beads...

Another friend of Joy's loves rainbow pianos so I painted one of my stamped music pendants for her.

...along with matching beads to go on a hemp necklace.

I'll post pix of the finished necklaces soon!

New Custom Orders

A friend's mom asked me to make a cowboy hat like she and her cheerleader squad wore in high school. I also made 4 matching beads. My friend Joy made the hemp necklace.

I had a craft show last weekend and two people asked for custom orders. First, I made this owl necklace for a lady's granddaughter...a birthday gift for her 11th birthday. The granddaughter likes to make things out of Sculpey so hopefully this will inspire her to keep creating.

And for a lady who collects giraffes, I made this fun ornament.
