Fingerprint Friday - Blast from the Past

I have kept in touch with my best friend from junior high through the years. Very recently, she found one of our favorite teachers on Facebook. His name is Carl Firley and he taught us 9th grade Civics in Champaign, Illinois. We were his very first class after he finished grad school. We mentioned him often through the years and wondered what happened to him. I certainly never dreamed I would ever see him again!

We all friended each other and have been messaging back and forth. He and his wife live in Florida and have a son who lives in Asheville! (What are the chances of that?!) I asked him if they ever come up to visit their son and he replied, "We are coming next week!" (What are the chances of that?!) So I was able to meet him and his lovely wife Sirkka for lunch yesterday. It certainly felt "meant to be."

I brought along my junior high yearbook which I have kept all this time, and we had fun looking through it and reminiscing, as well as catching up on the past 48 years. :)

Here he is "back when"...

And here's your truly, with WAY COOL glasses...

Here is my dear friend Marsha who set this all in motion. She and her family moved to Bloomington, Indiana, during that year, and back to Illinois later. Wish she could have joined us for lunch, but alas she lives too far away.

Psalm 116:12-13

How can I repay the LORD
for all his goodness to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the LORD.

There is a song by Steven Curtis Chapman that says:
I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it's true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of God

So look around you and see where YOU can see God's fingerprints. Is it in nature? Kids? Animals? Where do you see them? To find out how to join "Fingerprint Friday" and see links to other posts, visit Beki at The Rusted Chain.

What a great thing to meet up with your teacher. I am sure he felt quite pleased that he made such a lasting impression on his first class. It's so much fun to look back on old pictures from school. Love those glasses! Wonderful memories...great post!

Facebook has really bridged the gap for everyone. It's making the world smaller. That's where I got reconnected to my classmates in kindergarten and my teachers and classmates in elementary. The wonders of technology!
